Naperville drunk driver crashes into the front of a health club

When it comes to running a business, some say, success comes down to one thing: location. But there are some buildings in the Chicago area that seem to suffer a string of bad luck. Take for instance, a particular health and fitness club in nearby Naperville. In less than two years, the same building has been struck by two cars that have crashed through the walls and destroyed property and equipment.

According to news sources, the most recent car accident was caused by an alleged drunk driver. The 57-year-old woman behind the wheel apparently mistook the gas pedal for the brake when she was pulling her Mercedes into a parking spot at the club.

The car lunged forward and slammed into a brick pillar near the front doors of the club and came to a stop mere inches away from some exercise equipment on the other side of some windows. The driver suffered minor injuries, but no one else was reported to be hurt.

Paramedics took the woman to the hospital. At some point after leaving the scene, medical professionals determined that the woman was under the influence. It remains unclear why anyone would want to workout while intoxicated. Nonetheless, the woman has been charged with drunk driving.

The details of the crash are oddly similar to one that occurred at the same building in nearly the same spot in late 2011. In that crash, an 80-year-old woman driving a BMW crashed into the building after mistaking the gas and brake pedals.

In this most recent crash, it is fortunate that no one inside the fitness center was hurt. Drunk drivers put other people at risk each and every time they get behind the wheel. And as this case shows, those risks are not always limited to other drivers and pedestrians.
